Taking your measurements

Use a flexible tape measure and pull it close to the body without squeezing. For the most accurate results, measure over underwear or a single light layer.

1. BustWrap the tape around the widest point of your chest, keeping it straight across your back.
2. WaistFind the slimmest point of your natural waistline, just above your navel, and measure around it.
3. HipsCircle the tape around the widest part of your hips and backside.

How different dress styles fit

The same size can feel different depending on the cut and the material. Keep these points in mind:

  • Bodycon & bandage: made to cling close and keep their form. Pick the next size up if you fall between two sizes or prefer some ease. Browse bodycon dresses and bandage styles.
  • Maxi & A-line: these give extra room at the hips and skirt, so base your choice on bust and waist. View maxi dresses and A-line dresses.
  • Corset & structured: close-fitting through the bust and waist, so take precise measurements and go one size larger if unsure. See our corset dresses.
  • Satin & slip: these fabrics give very little, so leave some room and size by your largest measurement. Explore satin dresses.

Getting the right fit

Dress sizing questions

How do I change a US dress size into a UK or EU size?

For UK/AU sizing, add 4 to the US number (US 8 becomes UK 12). For EU sizing, add 32 (US 8 becomes EU 40). The conversion table above lists the full ranges from S to 5XL.

How can I work out my dress size?

Take your bust, waist and hip measurements in inches and compare the biggest of the three with the US chart above, or enter them in the size calculator. If you land between two sizes, pick the larger.

What's the right way to measure for a dress?

Use a flexible tape. Measure the bust at the widest point of your chest, the waist at its slimmest point, and the hips at the widest part of your backside. Hold the tape close to the body and parallel to the floor.

Do dresses tend to fit small or big?

That varies by cut. Close-fitting bodycon, bandage and corset styles may feel snug, so go up a size if you're in between. Looser maxi, A-line and flowing designs are usually closer to true size.

Which size should I pick if I'm between two?

Go with the larger size for comfort, particularly with fabrics that don't stretch, such as satin. With stretchy bodycon dresses, the smaller size works if you want a close fit.
